Kamaboko Art Center started in 2010 summer, as idea of Tsuyoshi Ozawa for a project the 5th Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale.
This project finds new artist from the public, and they stay and produce artworks each with Tsuyoshi Ozawa.
Kamaboko-type Storehouse Project
“Kamaboko-type Storehouse Project” is produced by Tsuyoshi Ozawa in 2003, the 3rd Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale.
He was inspired by scattered kamaboko-type storehouse in echigo-tsumari.
The Kamaboko shape, originated from arched structure found during railway constructions, is suitable in this heavy snow region.
Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale
The Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale is the world’s largest international art festival, held every three years in the Echigo-Tsumari region, encompassing Tokamachi City and Tsunan Town in Niigata Prefecture.
The Triennale has been held four times in 2000, 2003, 2006 and 2009 exhibiting the results of a long-term project called “Echigo-Tsumari Art Necklace Project,” which aimed to reveal, highlight and raise an overlooked value of the region through the medium of art and present it to the world, and by doing so contribute to regional revitalization.
